Hi there. There's a good chance you're a first time visitor to this blog. If that's the case - Welcome.
And if so, it's likely that you've seen my good friend John Smits roaming the halls of EMC. I suspect the red in his face is only contrasted by the ghost white legs that tend to follow a long New England Winter.
You see, John recently reached out to let me know about a good thing he was doing... A REALLY good thing. John's riding in the Pan Mass Challenge to raise money for cancer research. This 192 mile bike ride across Massachusetts is the single biggest fund-raising event for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and 100% of every dollar raised goes directly to cancer research.
Naturally, I couldn't say no, but also couldn't help but apply some 'creative marketing' to John's efforts.
You see, John owns a pair of shorts that seem to defy every sense of good fashion judgment. We started the bartering... I'd donate a certain amount if he agreed to do the right thing... burn them.
John eagerly replied "Easy! I thought you were going to ask me to wear them to work or something."
:)
So I doubled down, asking John to not only wear the shorts to work today (Friday), but to also proudly serve as a mass marketing vehicle for this blog post.
So here we are, and this is where you come in... Fun aside for a moment, this is a good cause. Dana-Farber's been around for over 60 years, and is committed to providing cancer patients with the best treatment available while developing tomorrow's cures through cutting-edge research. Donations are tax deductible - and every penny counts.
Here's a link to John's donation page. If you know someone else riding in the PMC, feel free to leave a link to their page in the comments - and be sure to thank them from all of us.
John and other PMC'ers are doing something special here, and we can help. Each rider needs to raise at least $4,200 in order to participate... Let's blow the roof off that number.
Thanks for the opportunity to help, John. You're a good sport.
One last thing, John... With regards to next year, what's your position on tattoos?
I can't tell where the plant starts and where the shorts end!
